Word-field project

English C builds on English B and corresponds to stage 7. The course provides preparation for vocational work or studies in higher education where English is used as a working tool. The course also provides pupils with opportunities to use English in project work. (Skolverket)

Your C-course project will now commence and the assignment is to work with a word-field related to your choice of upper-secondary programme. You need a co-worker who has chosen the same field of study as yourself and the two of you will choose a certain special area of words to focus on.

Examples of word-fields: Accounting, Art, Biology, Business/Economics/Finance, Children, Elections, Internet/Telecome/Computing/E-commerce, Psychology, Trade, Travel, Architecture, Criminology, Education, Engineering, Film, Medicine, Politics, Space, Technical English, Sports, Proverbs/Sayings/Idioms, Church/Religion etc

Having selected the programme related word-field, the process of word scanning in speciality dictionaries begins. Here are some useful sights:

Choose 25 words and explain them in English
Use as many of the 25 words in a coherent story which you make up on your own. The essay displays how the selected words are used in a context.

You will have the chance to look at old word-field essays being written previously in this course. Read them and use them as inspiration!

Time allowance: Your word-field essay is to be handed in on May 18 during the CAE lesson.

The project starts today on May 4 and the lessons on May 12 and May 18 could be used. The rest of the project needs to dealt with at home.
